YOU On A Diet Review

Following healthy eating guidelines to lose belly fat

You On A Diet is more of a healthy weight loss diet than another one of the many instant weight loss diets out there.

Created by Drs. Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz, it became famous virtually overnight after it was featured on Oprah.

Personally, I found it’s written in such an elementary way (at a reading level of grade 4 or 5 ) that it would almost be insulting to most people’s intelligence...my personal opinion.

That aside, here’s what the YOU on a Diet is actually about.

Highlights of the YOU On A Diet Plan

The weight loss meal plan is based on approximately 1,400 - 1,700 calories per day, although the plan isn’t based on counting calories so it doesn’t specify the exact amount of calories you should be eating daily.

I like that it takes the focus off counting calories and more on making healthy food choices.

It’s actually a seven day plan, repeated twice – so it's a fourteen day meal plan in total.

You have a choice between four different breakfast meals and four different lunch meals. The authors explain that having too large a variety of food choices can lead to overeating. Also, some people find it easier to NOT have to decide what to eat each day.

The book explains how to calculate your personal calorie intake for weight loss.

Drs. Roizen and Oz stress that in order to lose weight, you must eat.

They explain in detail how starvation slows down metabolism and makes your body hold on to body fat.

It’s what I call The Fat Belly Syndrome.

Foods in the You On A Diet plan are easy to find and can be purchased at any grocery store and a shopping list and 42 recipes are included in the book as well.

YOU On A Diet discourages weighing yourself daily. Instead this diet encourages measuring your waist circumference as a more accurate measure of weight loss.

I like that throughout the book it encourages you to make incremental changes in your diet and eating habits until you eventually reach your weight loss goal. It focuses on teaching long term healthy eating habits rather than being a quick fix, short term instant weight loss diet plan.

As one of the more popular diet plans, interestingly there’s no maintenance phase in this diet. The assumption is that once you understand and follow the healthy eating guidelines taught in book, you naturally know what to do. Rinse and repeat, so to speak.

For some, the meal plan may not have enough variety. If you don’t think you’ll enjoy eating basically the same foods for breakfast and lunch every single day, you may not enjoy this plan.

I also liked that Dr. Oz also suggests supplementing with a daily multi-vitamin and stresses the benefits of Omega-3 vitamins as well.

The exercise plan is an essential part of the whole plan and encourages strengthening of core muscles through weight training, stretching and participating in cardiovascular activities.

I think it's a little intense for someone who hasn’t exercised in years, but certainly you can tailor it to suit your level of fitness. The important basics are there and that’s what really counts.

All in all, the book is a quick and easy read. It’s written in a very basic format…maybe a little too basic? However it's still very educational and worth the read in my opinion.

Overall, Dr OZ sticks to the tried and true methods of the best weight loss plans, so you likely won’t find any celebrity weight loss secrets here.
