Red Clover Health Benefits
Wondering what helps hot flashes? Red Clover benefits for menopausal women
Red Clover health benefits are numerous, but it’s especially effective for women who are troubled by the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and night sweats. Most medical experts agree that isoflavones and in particular Red Clover phytoestrogen compounds can be a great friend to any woman who is suffering with the symptoms of menopause. If you are suffering from symptoms like
menopause weight gain,
hot flashes, night sweats, or any of the myriad of symptoms often associated with the onset of menopause, no doubt some days it can literally make you question your own sanity and you’re more than likely looking for something that will offer relief! Studies show that approximately 70% - 85% of women will experience anything from mild to severe symptoms during this life phase. It’s cause? Fluctuating and/or diminishing female hormone levels.
Red Clover Health Benefits: Phytoestrogen
Red Clover is the best natural herb for menopause. It’s known as to be rich in phytoestrogens (as is
soy
), but what’s really interesting here is its ability to mimic the action of our female hormones – I’m talking about estrogen in particular. Let me explain how it works for us ladies: Keep in mind that your body’s key function is always to maintain balance or ‘homeostasis’ and symptoms are the body’s way of getting your attention when it’s not. Phytoestrogenic compounds like the ones found in Red Clover are very similar to our own natural estrogen molecules. So when these estrogen molecules are released into your bloodstream they travel around and eventually attach and bind themselves to hormone receptors (and cell membranes) producing a very similar effect as that of natural estrogen. Therefore as your own natural estrogen levels are diminishing, these phytoestrogens can step up and help to make up for the loss of natural estrogen. Red Clover phytoestrogen compounds help your body maintain balance and alleviate many of your symptoms in the process. Can you now see why Red Clover is known as the best natural herb for menopause? Ok…end of endocrinology lesson.
More Red Clover Health Benefits
A member of the legume family (peas, beans), the list of Red Clover benefits is growing daily as it’s being researched. One 2005 study that was published in the Gynecological Endocrinology Journal confirmed that Red Clover benefits include it ability to effectively reduce and even eliminate menopausal hot flashes in women (I’ve explained why above.) Another study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2004) concluded that Red Clover health benefits also include its effective protection against bone loss. The National Cancer Institute in Australia has even studied Red Clover health benefits closely for its anti-cancer properties. It can help to stimulate your immune system and can be a very effective expectorant for chest colds and coughs. They were able to establish that Red Clover in fact contains not only one, but four different phytoestrogens. The results of these studies were also able to show that taking red clover can be helpful in lowering your blood pressure too by helping to thin the blood and reduce or even eliminate hot flashes.
Red Clover Health Benefits : Menopause Symptoms Relief
Most menopause natural supplements have few, if any dangerous side effects and I truly believe (and it has been my experience) that they are far more effective and safe to take for your symptom relief than most prescription medications or over the counter drugs. Natural herbs like Red Clover and even Dong Quai have stood the test of time; they’ve been used by women to treat female conditions for literally hundreds of years. Personally, I follow a daily nutritional supplement regime that includes
menopause nutritional supplements
plus an
Omega-3/DHA fish oil supplement.
I also do my best to maintain and follow a healthy life style that includes a healthy diet plan, regular cardiovascular and resistance exercises, and of course some down time each day to listen to my favorite relaxation CD and de-stress every day. Personally, I can’t recall when I last experienced a hot flash or any other menopause symptom for that matter! Ladies, you really don’t have to suffer! But menopause natural supplements alone can’t do it all for you. You’ll also need to consider incorporating some healthy lifestyle habits like the ones I’ve just mentioned into your daily regime, especially if your symptoms tend to be frequent or really bothersome.
Red Clover Contraindications
Red Clover is not suitable for women who are pregnant or nursing. Also, those who are taking blood thinners may need to adjust their dosage as red clover has a mild blood thinning effect. Because Red Clover contains phytoestrogens it’s not the best choice for women who have been diagnosed with estrogen dominant health conditions. As always, it’s important to first check with your health care provider prior to making any changes or beginning any new supplement regimen.
Red Clover Health Benefits: Herb Uses
Red Clover health benefits are numerous and there are so many other ways to enjoy this natural herb for menopause. No doubt, you’ve likely heard of Red Clover tea. Every week I like to go to a local farmers market in my area to stock up on seasonal fresh, organic produce and to support the local area farmers. Recently, on a particularly hot afternoon, I made my usual trip to the local farmers market and had the pleasure of meeting a local farmer who had just mixed up a batch of Red Clover Lemonade.
Wow! It was fabulous and so refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness! Moreover I was so surprised to see fresh red clover blossoms for sale amongst the fresh blueberries and green beans. Miss Svetec of
