Two Low Carbohydrate Grains that Improve Energy, Minimize Hunger and Help You Lose More Belly Fat!
I often get asked about low carb grains and which are the best choices. Carbohydrates are a vital component of what we eat daily. They give us the energy essential for a large number of bodily processes, such as brain activity and muscle actions. When we consume the proper carbohydrate food, in the appropriate quantities, at the proper time, the result is improved metabolism, greater energy, fewer food cravings and better appetite control. On the other hand, when you take in too many carbohydrates, choose unacceptable types, and / or eat carbs at the wrong time, you're also taking a chance on health consequences that include but are not limited to: - weight gain
- hunger pangs
- food cravings
- weakness, loss of strength
- unclear and foggy thinking
- inflammation in the body and joints
- and even premature aging
No matter what all of the promoters of popular diet plans tell you, cutting carbohydrates out of your diet completely is just not a great strategy for losing belly fat...and weight reduction in general. By doing this, you actually eliminate your body's major source of fuel and energy! In the long term, this can create actual physical stress, which may lead to muscle tissue loss plus an increase in body fat - most certainly not what you were going for, no doubt. Without carbohydrates, your sex hormones become diminished as well, causing your libido to flat line. Serotonin levels that control your mood drops as well. This can lead to food cravings, unnecessary eating, bingeing, symptoms of depression, fatigue and sleep disturbances. It's no surprise then that any extreme low carbohydrate diet is linked to irritability and low energy! It's a near impossible method of eating to sustain long term! Instead of a zero or no carb diet, your best weight loss approach would be to choose your carbs a little more wisely. Go for choices that are rich in fiber as well as low glycemic (low in sugar). When you do this, you'll give your body the fuel it needs for providing energy and to help it function at its best.

Here are two of my favorite low carbohydrate grains: 1. Bread has got a pretty bad rap these days, however I'd like to point out that not all bread is created the same. The best bread is one that nutrient dense. It's made using sprouted grains rather than regular processed, white flour and contains little or no sweeteners. Ezekiel bread is a great example of a nutrient dense bread made with sprout grains. If you can't find Ezekiel bread at your local grocer, look for 100% whole grain rye breads with no more than 18 grams of carbohydrates per slice. 2. Steel cut oats are very high in fiber and are a low glycemic index food. This low carbohydrate grain makes an exceptional morning meal that's high in protein, calcium, B-vitamins, as well as fiber while at the same time is low in sodium. Its higher than average fiber content will help to stabilize blood glucose levels and blood insulin while at the same time it reduces cholesterol levels. Oat Bran, oatmeal and steel cut oats contain beta-glucan, a nutritional fiber that has helps to reduce blood cholesterol levels. So you see, there’s no reason to avoid breads and cereals when cutting calories or trying to follow a low carb or low glycemic diet plan.
