Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

to Lose Belly Fat

Are you thinking, "bariatric weight loss surgery to lose belly fat?

That’s a little EXTREME, isn't it?”

The reality is, that if you've essentially "hit the wall", and all other options have failed, bariatric weight loss surgery can help and even reverse the health robbing effects of long term morbid obesity.

In my opinion, I think that most weight loss concerns can be taken care of with a healthy diet plan along with some form of daily exercise.

And for some, prescription weight loss medications may be what they feel they need to kick start weight loss or to break through a weight loss plateau.

But for other women who fall into the “morbidly obese” category with a Body Mass Index of 40+, they may feel they want to look into something more permanent like bariatric weight loss surgery, particularly if they've been unsuccessful in taking off the excess body fat and their health is at risk.

So while I believe that the bulk of weight loss concerns can be handled with proper dieting and exercising, I also think that there are certain people who can actually gain from some form of stomach surgery for weight loss - no pun intended!

Just recently, I listened to Dr. Oz discuss the 'ins and outs' of the types of weight loss surgery available and was surprised by his explanation.

In essence, he believes the same thing – that diet and exercise is the best solution. In fact, one of the more popular books on weight loss, "You On A Diet" was co-authored by Dr. Oz.

Interestingly, what he said about the effects of bariatric weight loss surgery and why it's become the cure or treatment of choice for chronic obesity problems truly surprised me.

He tells us that changes in health risk factors like cholesterol, hypertension and even diabetes will begin to improve almost instantly after surgery - this is before any major weight loss even begins!

Why does that happen?

It's believed that the infinite wisdom of our bodies can actually detect the 'trend' of weight loss and this is more significant to the body than your actual body weight.

For health risk factors like hypertension, cholesterol and diabetes, it's not necessarily your waist circumference or how much you weigh that influences the risks, but in which direction your body is heading!

As soon as you undergo bariatric weight loss surgery, your body almost immediately begins behaving in the way a 'normal' body behaves and begins regulating essential hormone cycles that signal appetite and satiety.

The doctor even told a story of how one patient reported to her surgeon that she was sure that he had operated on her brain, and not her tummy, because the voice in her head that incessantly told her she was hungry was turned off for the very first time in her life.

What about bariatric surgery risks?

Stomach surgery for weight loss isn't something that should be taken frivolously – it’s a serious life altering decision and there are some serious risks involved.

Speak to your doctor first and foremost to find out if you are even a candidate.

Be sure to do your own personal homework and know what it can and cannot do for you beforehand.

Remember, for most bariatric weight loss surgery patients it was a matter of living a longer, healthier life vs. being plagued by chronic disease that would eventually send them to an early grave.

It came down to a life or death decision for them.

If your health is in peril and you honestly feel that you need help to lose a large amount of weight you may benefit this type of procedure. Just be sure to get as much information as possible from good, credible sources in advance and weigh out the pros and cons carefully.
